Baby classes are funny. Baby classes in Utah are arguably funnier.
Aside from the clueless 18 year old Mormon first-time parents, who are always entertaining, we had a true class clown in our breastfeeding class on Thursday who definitely shared my sense of humor.
He asked: "Can you tell us about drinking alcohol while breastfeeding?"
The instructor said: "Oh, it's perfectly fine. Just try to give yourself two hours per drink before breastfeeding again."
He then said: "Ok, great. Because she is a drunk!" (pointing to his wife).
She shook her head and buried it in her hands in embarrassment. He would definitely fit in with our group of friends, but we typically only deride the guys in our posse. I'm just not mean (read: brave) enough to pull that type of humor on Kelly.

Unpleasantries
I spent some time on Amazon today, researching something for the baby. I checked around, read reviews, and picked what I thought was the best one. I checked with my sister, discussed the best options, and decided on this:
I started telling a story to one of my friends about what I bought on Amazon today. About three words into the story I realized nobody really wants to hear about what I bought, unless they've been there and done that before.
You always hear about people with kids annoying people without them--talking about every detail of their own children. I can already tell conversing with our standard group of friends is going to be tough because these types of things are already starting to dominate our daily thoughts.
I guess that's what this blog is for--so people can tune in/out whenever they want.

The 9th Month
We are nearing the ninth month and from what I understand, the entire reason for this month is to get you so sick of being pregnant that you are actually willing to go through labor. I think they might be right. Here's some of Kelly's musings for the day:
"Baby hiccups are kinda cute, but they are also kinda annoying."and
"I think I'm ready to not be pregnant."I guess that last one sums it up!

Lovin'
I always envisioned one's lap disappearing because they stand up. It turns out it also disappears when you are pregnant. Kilo has had quite a hard time adjusting to her favorite nap locale shrinking these past few months - I can't imagine how she will deal with a new little one stealing all of her mom's attention.
So, for now, she's gettin' the lovin' while the lovin' is good.
She's also a good test subject for my new lighting setup.

Baby Shower
Kelly's mom, dad, and sister came into town over the holiday weekend to witness Kelly's growing belly firsthand before the big arrival. Kelly's sister and sister-in-law planned a surprise baby shower for the same weekend.
It was a bit tough keeping things a secret, especially since cakes were being decorated and party food was being made at out house. A few people had a tough time keeping their big traps shut as well (that would be me). We finally told Kelly to stop asking questions and to just "go with the flow". She did her best to act surprised.
Ours was a high-tech party. For some strange reason, Kelly and I are the only ones in our respective families to live in Utah, so we had a number of people join the party on the web. We found a free site TokBox that allows multiple people to video conference at the same time without having to download software. It worked great - kinda. Kelly's mom acted as our connection to the web - relaying their comments to us.
All in all, Kelly had a great time. Baby Steffen was showered with gifts and it was great seeing family and friends. Thanks so much to everyone who helped put everything together. And thank you so much to everyone who could join - in person, via phone, or on the web.

Baby's Room - #3
How much does it cost to hire a painter?
One small room with four walls, one chair rail, and trim - with three colors. I thought that would be easy work. We weren't even painting the ceiling!
Kelly's comment to me tonight: "Remember when I was laughing at you for starting this whole painting thing so long ago? I'm not laughing now." We did it though! All done.
We have one piece of furniture in the room, but we still have a few more pieces left to go. We're aiming to have things put together by the time Kelly's family arrives this weekend. We'll see what happens. Here is the sneak peak:
